"From Coast-to-Coast, We Go the Extra Mile"
From the previous post, I talked about an issue I was having with my 2010 Cummins pushing coolant out of the overflow tank. In that post, I went through the steps I took to troubleshoot the issue and revealed two things: 1. During one of the heat tests with a pressure tester on it, the thermostat didn't open (upper radiator hose was soft and you could barely feel coolant going through it). 2. The radiator cap that was installed in 2018 failed when pressurized to 10-12 PSI. It should have held to at least 17 PSI.
I picked up a new 190 degree thermostat directly from Cummins and put on a new Mopar 18 PSI radiator cap. A test run and a trip up the mountain didn't reveal any additional problems. The cap seems to be holding up now and the new thermostat is definitely working the way it should. Here's to hitting 300K miles perhaps by the end of the year without any further issues!
